Principally a GRIPCOIL Self-Locking Nut is an indigenously engineered standard type nut of any metal including all types of high tensile and corrosion resistant steel into which a precision stainless steel screw threaded insert, having a locking coil, is pre-assembled. The wire liner is securely retained inside the nut by the spring-like pressure of high tensile SS-304 (18/8) and such unique fitment provides an exclusive and resilient internal locking thread that predominantly grips the bolt or screw and prevents it from loosening under any amount of vibration or impact and thereby also ensures a guaranteed retention of locking torque and provides greater strength to the assembly. Besides, it protects the nut thread against corrosion, abuse, wear, stripping, etc. without damaging the interchangeable threads. The locking action is achieved by one or more of polygonal coils of the insert and has a series of straight segments or chords. When the bolt enters the GRIPCOIL, these chord-like segments flex outward creating pressure on the bolt. This pressure is exerted between the flanks of the bolt threads thus utilizing the maximum contact area and minimizing the unit pressure. APPLICATION |
